Story
The Durham University Lawn Tennis Club will be collectively running the distance of Durham to Wimbledon and back, a distance of 1000 KM between 20th April and 26th April to raise vital funds and awareness for the incredible NHS staff and volunteers.
During these unprecedented times, we are all so proud of the amazing NHS staff and volunteers who are working tirelessly to care for COVID-19 patients and to save lives. This means staying away from their homes and families, working day and night, to treat as many people as possible that need to be cared for.
With the daily death toll at its highest and an increasing number of fatalities on the front line, there is no better time to raise awareness for these courageous workers. So we thought we'd challenge ourselves by running to support this great cause and help those who are most vulnerable.
In the meantime, please stay inside and let's show our gratitude and respect for all of the amazing frontline NHS carers, and together beat this virus. Even with big events like Wimbledon cancelled we can still play our part whilst keeping our distance!
Your donations will:
- Be granted to member NHS charities supporting the health and emotional wellbeing of those at the frontline of the NHS, so they can deliver the best care possible to coronavirus patients.
- Donations will cover above and beyond what the NHS alone can provide, such as wellbeing packs, accommodation, travel, parking and volunteer expenses.
- Support the longer term mental and rehabilitation of NHS staff, volunteers, patients and carers after the pandemic is over.
- Support NHS patients to leave hospital quickly and safely and to remain or stay out of hospital.
