On Sunday 12th June 2022, the Highland Meats team of Jane McHarg, Vicky Young, Joan Findlay, Lillias Love and Margaret Andrew are taking part in The Jay Walk, a charity walk in memory of Jay Kennedy. This charity walk is raising funds to become founding sponsors of a complimentary therapy room for children, young people and adults in the new Ayrshire Cancer Support Centre at Ayr.
This therapy room will be created in Jays name and will be his legacy.
Jay Kennedy was the son of a South Ayrshire farming family who at the age of 18 years old was diagnosed with brain cancer. Sadly late last year Jay died aged 20, after 18 months living with brain cancer and numerous operations and relentless treatments. He faced unimaginable challenges in that time but he took on every one with humility and courage. He was a warrior, a hero in every sense of the word. His story is one of enduring “Hope”, a spirit and energy that eclipsed any cancer diagnosis. An enlightened mind and soul he was an extraordinary wise young man with an outlook on life and death many would envy.
So on Sunday 12th of June 2022 friends, family and people who were moved by Jay will come together and join in walking the River Ayr Way. This will be done in various distances and sections for mixed abilities. Some will tackle the whole 44 miles in a day but for most a portion of that will be an achievement. The distance is a personal challenge, the overriding reason is the “connection”, people coming together in Jays name, in his spirit and all he stood for and continues to represent.
To read more about this incredible young man and journey of achievements in his short life please follow the posts on "The Jay Walk" Facebook page. It really is a remarkable story of hope even when there seemed to be none, so please take 5 minutes to read his story.
We are so thankful for any support, sponsorship and donations we receive as this will go a long way in providing support for families in Ayrshire during times of need when they require it most.
