Atlantic Coast Race · 30 September 2011
We got bored of the 1k walk around the block charity events, so we thought we'd do something a little more challenging.
A friend and I are going to be running a double marathon, that is two marathons in two days at the start of October. It's part of the Atlantic Coast Challenge, which is a race along the Cornish coast. There is a third marathon as part of the Challenge but we thought to attempt that would be stupid.
We have done some pretty intensive training over the last few months, including a few half marathons and hill races. Each marathon has a climb and descent of 5,000 ft over the Cornish cliffs - more than going up and down Ben Nevis. We'll be running both with an estimated finish time of 5-6h.
The charity I'm looking to support is the Oasis Children's Venture Charity in Clapham. They provide safe and inclusive recreation areas for local kids in Lambeth, in what is still a deprived urban area. Their excellent facilities include a race kart track, an adventure playground, and a nature garden. They are supported by charity donations, and run by volunteers. I've seen the charity in action, and it's a great way to keep local kids safe, off the streets, and away from crime.
We'd both be extremely grateful for any donation you can provide. It will be immensely beneficial to both causes, and will really encourage us in our race.
[Blurb from JustGiving...Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity].
Thanks!
