Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Most of you will know that I'm a local, almost 60 year old boy originally from Paulsgrove, who has previously tackled other competitive races from the local Great South Run, to the extremes
of the 100km ‘Biel Running Days’ Marathon in Switzerland. However, in 2018 I will take on my toughest challenge yet, by taking part in the ultimate Marathon, the Des Sables.
The Marathon des Sables takes place in the Sahara Desert, with us runners taking on a mammoth 254km in six days, whilst temperatures range between 40-50°C. During the race - where
water is rationed daily - we must be completely self-sufficient,
carrying all of our own food, sleeping gear and other equipment that we'll need over the six stage race. With a backpack weighing around 7.5kg, I will be on my feet for up to 8-12 hours per day as I make my way across the harsh Desert terrain, with the longest stage of the race covering a massive 85km which will likely take me nearer 18-24 hours!
Being able to raise money for The Rowans Hospice is such a motivation for me to succeed by biggest challenge yet. Having seen the amazing work carried out by the nurses and staff at The Rowans, I’ll be doing my very best to put in a positive performance, and to help raise both awareness and donations for such an inspiring local charity.
Thank you in advance for donating!
