Story
Duncan is raising funds for the Motor Neurone Disease
Association in memory of Chris (Dougie) Davies – a top bloke, who showed great bravery
following his diagnosis in 1999 at the age of only 36, sadly passing away four
years later. A big family man, wife Jenny, son Tom and daughter Holly. Chris
was an exceptionally talented sportsman – wearing the No 10 shirt for Wharfedale
Rugby Club as they rose through the National League structure – being promoted
three tiers whist Chris was playing at 10. Chris was also a permanent member of
the Embsay Cricket Club 1st XI for 20 years – including captaining the
side to the league title in 1998, the year before his diagnosis. Above all
Chris was a cracking guy, with a great sense of humour who had everything to
live for but who was taken far too young by this cruellest of diseases.
Any funds raised for the Association will go towards the
quest to find a cure and importantly help those diagnosed to live as normal a
life as possible. My challenge is to run at least 5 miles (8.1km) every day for
35 days (1st January to the 4th of February). As I am now
a mainly desk bound office worker, who is nearer 60 than 50, I can assure you
this is not my idea of fun! – I sincerely hope you can support this worthwhile
cause in whatever way you can.
Many thanks - Duncan
