OSCAR's PBTC was set up in memory of Oscar Hughes, a 9-year-old who died of a brain tumour in 2014. His journey was heartbreaking yet inspiring. OSCAR's aims to provide support and care to children with brain tumours, raise awareness to help diagnosis and fund research into better treatments.

We are raising money for OSCAR's Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity because the local family who set it up have known unimaginable tragedy and yet they still put others first and try to raise money to help other children and families. OSCAR's aims to fund critical research into paediatric brain tumours with the hope to find a cure and to develop less devastating treatments, working closely with other charities.

OSCAR's (Ongoing Support, Care, Awareness and Research into) Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity was formed in November 2014 by the parents and friends of Oscar Hughes, a 9 year old boy from Dunnington who died of a brain tumour in May 2014.

Oscar was a sporty and energetic 8 year old when he was first diagnosed, just like our fabulous U11 boys who are undertaking this challenge. As he went through his treatment he put all of his energy into staying strong for his siblings and friends, as well as fundraising for other children with cancer. Sadly, Oscar died before seeing the impact of his journey to help others.

Since then, this amazing family have known yet more heartache. Oscar's dad, Ian, had a seizure in February 2019 and the family received the devastating news that he had also been diagnosed with a brain tumour. He died the following January.

As if that is not enough for one family to live through, the family's youngest son, Milo, born just over a year after Oscar's death, also developed brain tumours in his short little life. Around a month after his dad's funeral, Milo began to show signs that something was wrong and the doctors diagnosed multiple brain tumours. He died in 2021, aged just 5.

Despite their own personal tragedies, the Hughes family have continued to raise awareness of paediatric brain tumours and fundraise alongside other charities to support research into finding a cure and developing treatments which are less devastating physically and mentally for children.

Please donate as generously as you can. Our kids will be running their socks off in memory of these brave boys and to help other children who are suffering from brain tumours now and in the future.
