Dunns do the North Coast 500

Dunns Do NC500 · 14 June 2021
In the middle of June 2021 (Covid-permitting), Roz and Peregrine are going to head up to Scotland to cycle the North Coast 500 (miles) in 5 days - starting in Inverness, heading west and then up and back round the coast to Inverness. That's 100 miles a day for 5 days in a row with a lot of elevation, plenty of headwinds and probably a few thousand midges (our incentive to go faster).
Why are we doing this?
Over the past few years, particularly the last 18 months, we have witnessed several close friends and their family members affected by brain tumours. Some have struggled through weeks of radiotherapy; multiple rounds of chemotherapy; and several emergency hospitalisations (including one to fix a crumbling spine caused by the steroids that are key in the regime); whilst others have not even had the time to fight their diagnosis. Having watched the way that their lives and the lives of their families have been affected as a result of this distressing disease, we want to raise some money to help fund more research into improving the treatment and outcomes for people living with brain tumours, as well as why they happen.
This is even more important when you find out the shocking numbers just for here in the UK: 88,000 are living with a brain tumour right now, with 11,700 diagnosed each year.
The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we're moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour. We're set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change. And we're doing it right now. Because we understand that when you, or someone you love, is diagnosed with a brain tumour a cure really can't wait.
