Lyke Wake Walk · 10 September 2016

A safe home and a fresh start. We deliver supported housing and homeless prevention for young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We support and develop our young people's independent living skills, increasing their positive life chances. Thank you for your support!

Story

Durham Dunelm Round Table offers men the opportunity to have fun, help their community and develop new skills.

We will be undertaking the LYKE WAKE WALK (http://www.lykewake.org/) on September 10th, and its a complete crossing of the North Yorkshire moors along their main east-west watershed between the Stone at grid reference 470994 and the Trig point at 971012, a distance of approximately 40 miles, and we are planning to complete the walk in under 24 hours!

Starting at midnight we'll walk on throughout the night,  morning and day whatever the weather to complete this challenge!

We are doing  this to raise funds for a local Durham Charity called Moving On.

Moving On was established in 1998 to break the cycle of youth homelessness in County Durham. We work with people (aged 16-25) who are homeless or threatened by homelessness, particularly those who are most vulnerable and at risk. Moving On runs a number of services.

* Providing an outreach Information, advice and guidance service to homeless young people across County Durham. Operating across 23 locations, the service worked with over 400 young people last year from the most deprived communities in the County.

* Counselling to help young people who are in crisis and confused to assist them in taking difficult decisions.

* Assisting young people to access accommodation, where possible secure long term accommodation, in the private, public and voluntary sectors, or helping them to take steps towards that end.

* Providing tenancy and housing related support to tenants which will enable them to stay in their tenancy and move forwards with their lives.

* Moving On Housing: a social lettings agency for young people to increase their access to accommodation

Many Thanks for your support
