Story

Wednesday 2nd June will mark two years since we lost our incredible Tom to cancer.  We miss him in all the ways you can imagine and in all the ways that you can't.  We are learning to live alongside his memory and it's hard.  Charities like Winston's Wish help because they make us feel less alone.  We're not the only the ones and we can get support if we need it.  It might be reading another family's story or finding an idea of something positive to do where we can remember all our numerous happy times with Tom.  Above all that, it is all about building the foundation blocks in order to support three little boys, now 5, 8 and 10 to become the resilient, caring and kind young adults that Tom and I always wanted them to be.  I can't take away the devastating loss they have experienced but I can help them to feel less alone and strengthened by knowing how much they are loved by both Tom and me.

Tom loved creating fun times with his family and I was trying to find something to do with the boys to mark the anniversary of his passing.  Last year we lit sparklers to light up the night's sky with his name, stars and hearts.  Tom didn't just light up our world, he made it sparkle!  So this year, we will light sparklers again and build a fort to spend the night in.  Thank you, Winston's Wish for this brilliant idea!

Here's the bit from Winston's Wish:  Fort Night is back....between 31st May 7th June, were challenging you for one night only (or 7 if you are brave!) to raise money by spending the night in the most unusual place you can think of. Whether you dust off the tent and camp under the stars, de-clutter the under stairs cupboard to make room for your masterpiece, or build a den right in the middle of the front room. We are asking families to work together and build the perfect den. Alongside all of the fun we hope you'll have, there' a serious side to our Fort Night fundraiser. Sadly, more than 100 children are bereaved of a parent every day in the UK. As a result of coronavirus, were already seeing this number begin to rise. We're working harder than ever to provide vital frontline support for children who have been bereaved as a result of the pandemic and we desperately need your help. By raising or donating just £28 you can help us to provide a child with all of the tools and materials they need to explore their grief.
