Freya’s 100 steps for Captain Tom’s birthday! · 30 April 2021

Campaign by Marie Curie (RCN 207994 (England & Wales) and SC038731 (Scotland))
During the pandemic Captain Tom stepped up to support the NHS Covid-19 by taking on his famous walk and inspiring millions to donate. We are offering the chance to raise funds in the spirit of Captain Tom for the charity of your choice.

Story

I’ve decided to set a challenge for Freya for the Captain Tom 100 challenge  starting from Friday 30th April- Monday 3rd May.  This will mean for each of those days Freya has to walk 100 steps in her frame at a time.

I’ve decided that we will use this challenge to help raise money for a charity so close to our heart which is First Step.

For many people who know Freya was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 8 months old after suffering a traumatic birth that led to HIE grade 2 brain damage due to oxygen deprivation. This affects all 4 limbs, which makes it hard for Freya to carry out everyday challenges such as walking. First step has given us hope & got us prepared for Freya to start a mainstream nursery soon. They’ve just been a god send🙌🏻

First step is a nursery based in Hornchurch for children with disabilities , and family support. Unfortunately due to the pandemic they’ve had to close the nursery so they’ve struggled financially which includes lack of funding from the local authority. Fortunately for us they have still remained open for one to one family sessions, and support . We’d love to help them as much as we can, & help get the funding they need to open back up as a nursery in the future to help many other children like Freya..

Please help support Freya in smashing her target and help raise some much needed funds for First Step. 💗
