KPMG Lomond Hospice Challenge · 20 May 2008
On 14th June Bruce, John, Jim, Paul, Paul and David will be taking part in the Eiger Triathlon Challenge, part of KPMG's Lomond Hospice Challenge. This is a brutal event, and it will help to raise money for the Prince & Princess of Hospice and St Margarets Hospice, both of which are fantastic non-government funded organisations, giving an invaluable service to the terminally ill and their families.
Named after the iconic mountain, the Eiger, this is a fantastic adventure triathlon type format which is designed to test our physical and mental toughness. The event starts at 9am from the shoreline just in front of the hotel, with a stunning 11km Canadian canoe heading north along the Bonnie Banks to Inversnaid.
The 21km cycle then provides what will undoubtedly be a welcome change of limb use. The route follows a tarmac single track road along Loch Arklet and then southwards along Loch Chon.
At the southern end of Loch Chon, there will be a checkpoint where participants transition to the hiking or running stage depending on our condition or the terrain under foot. The 6km run follows forest tracks and a path back towards the finish at the Rowardennan Hotel.
Total estimated completion time is between 5 and 7 hours. Our overall aim is simply to complete the challenge in one piece!!
