Barretstown Climb Every Mountain Challenge · 31 January 2021 ·
I am fundraising for Barretsown as part of the Barretstown Climb Every Mountain Challenge. The COVID 19 crisis has resulted in a massive reduction in fundraising income, just when families need Barretstowns life-changing therapeutic programmes more than ever. The children Barretstown serves already suffer the effects of isolation due to the impact of a serious illness, like cancer and the current situation is only making this worse. Barretstown needs our help to continue to deliver their programmes to these children and their families during this difficult time.
As part of the team from the Photonic Sensing and Systems Lab (PSSL) in Dublin City University. I will be aiming to personally climb over 3440 m which is almost equivalent to climbing the 4 highest peaks in Ireland (Carrauntoohil, Co. Kerry (1,038m), Mweelrea, Co. Mayo (814m), Slieve Donard, Co. Down (925m), Lugnaquilla, Co. Wicklow (850m)) or about 1/3 of Mount Everest!!
However, all the climbing will be done indoors! The challenge sets out a goal of climbing 983 flights of stairs and I aiming to do this in 7 days. That's over 140 flights of stairs a day.
