 Hospital in Somalia:Muslim Charity’s first maternity hospital was established in 2005. Today MC is running 5 hospitals in Pakistan benefitting 1000’s of poor and vulnerable families.

 

 

MDG 4: Reduce child mortalityFor every 1,000 live births, 200 Somali children die before their fifth birthday (UNICEF - Somalia Statistics March 2010). One in 10 Somali children dies before its first birthday.

MDG 5: Improve maternal healthUNICEF estimate maternal mortality at 1,000 per 100,000 live births, which puts Somali women as one of the most high-risk groups. Only 33% of all births are attended by a skilled health worker. In the UK, the comparable ratio is 8.9 per 100,000.

A women dies every 90 seconds from complications of pregnancy 90% of these are preventableThere are a total of 429 midwives (including nurse-midwives) in Somalia, with a density of 1 midwife per 1,000 live births
