Walk & Talk
Campaign by Beat (RCN 801343)
This summer, step out to show support for everyone affected by eating disorders. Celebrate recovery, meet new friends, and raise awareness of these serious mental illnesses.

Story

I am organising a Walk and Talk event in aid of Beat, the UK’s eating disorders charity (www.b-eat.co.uk)

I decided to get involved with Beat’s work and became a Beat Ambassador at the end of June. Having suffered from Anorexia since my teenage years and unable to receive the proper treatment until some 30 years later, I am fully aware of the need for early diagnosis as being the key to receiving the professional help necessary for recovery.

I am keen to support Beat’s services for sufferers and carers through
fundraising, whilst raising awareness by getting people to talk more about these illnesses.

Eating disorders are widely misunderstood and stigmatised, they are complex and serious mental illnesses that can affect anyone, regardless age, gender and background. But they are treatable conditions, and with the right support full recovery is possible.

Beat run phone and email Helplines 365 days a year, message boards, and online support groups. They offer awareness training, regional support services, and a HelpFinder service to help people find treatment in their area. They also campaign for positive change for people who are suffering so that they can get the help they need and deserve as quickly as possible.

Beat couldn’t run their support services without the help of generous
supporters.

If you wish to join me in supporting Beat’s work, please make a donation today. Every amount, big or small, can make a massive difference:

£10    could help 5 sufferers share their messages on Beat’s message board and receive peer support when they most need it.

£30    could help provide information resources to support 10 people in visiting their GP about their eating disorder for the first time.

£100   could offer 200 young people support and guidance for caring for someone with an eating disorder.

£250   could help 50 sufferers reach our helplines by phone or email.

£750   could help run the Beat Helpline for 1 day.

Your support means a lot to me. Thank you so much,

Jenny
