100k Step Challenge · 31 July 2020 ·

The 100,000 step challenge will help ensure Special Olympics can continue to provide their life-changing services to people with an intellectual disability in my locality and help get you active again during this difficult time.

Story

Thanks for coming on to support the Eastern Region staff as we aim to walk 100,000 steps collectively a day from June 15th to June 19th (roughly 13,000 steps each, totaling HALF A MILLION STEPS in five days).  While the lockdown as made us all more consciously active with our exercise, we have noticed our step counts are missing the boost from the daily commute and normal movement since we all are working from home, so we are taking on this challenge during a work week to force us to get creative with getting those steps in!

Year round we are inspired by the Special Olympics athletes we meet, who "step up to the challenge" every day.  Since the outbreak of Covid-19, our clubs have had to stop their normal training but once again we saw our athletes step forward and take on the new challenge of staying healthy, in body and mind, participating in the Together at Home programme and taking on new ways to keep active and connected.
