Story

Thank you for coming to my Just Giving page!

I am doing a Skydive on 20th July (weather dependant) to raise money for Poole Hospital Charity. The money will be going towards Dorset Epilepsy Trust Fund, which is a great charity and is raising money for equipment which any of us may need in the local area and with a shorter waiting list. As some of you may know, last August my step-mum, Heidi, had 3 seizures and was diagnosed with an AVM in her brain.  On 24th November Heidi shared her life experience to raise money for neurological research by doing a successful 10K run.  She went into 2014 feeling confident using her New Year's Eve status to update friends and family of what she thought was to come. Here is a paragraph written by Heidi to explain things up to date.

"On the 31st of December I updated you all to explain that in 2014, I would be looking at Brain Surgery and the possibility of being of being Epileptic.  It has been a very long 2014 so far but I can now report after many appointments, scans and consultations that, I have had the news that they also found a 2.5cm Frontal Benign Meningioma (Tumour) and a left Petrous Apex Cholesterol Granuloma (Cyst). The specialists were unsure of which one was the cause of the seizures. So after more tests they still believe it is the Arterio Venous Malformation (AVM). I have also been told that I do have epilepsy and will be on drugs for 4 years to control the seizures......"

" On the 5th of June, I have had the news that I will be having my AVM and Tumour removed by surgery, a few weeks apart, and they will observe the Cyst. Scary times to come, but an opportunity to raise awareness and money for a good cause. This time it is a local charity, that after careful consideration I will be giving my ongoing support to.  After speaking to a number of professionals at Poole Hospital I believe it could potentially benefit all of us in the area".

Dorset Epilepsy Service have been running for 5 years and to mark their 5th anniversary they are raising money for:

*   New technology for their 3T MRI scanner for quick diagnosis for all; currently these scans can only be accessed in Southamton or London, with a long waiting list.

*   Expansion of existing specialist neuropsychological support and counselling which will offer support quicker and more comprehensively than many people are receiving at the moment

*   Development of Ambulatory and Video EEG recording to offer tests at home, which will be easier for families, reduce stress and free hospital beds

*   Help train health care professionals excel in the amazing work they already do

So pease donate anything you can.

Thank you all x
