I will be running the Edinburgh Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon to fundraise for Beat a charity very close to my heart who helped me when I was suffering.
Now I want to do my bit to say thank you to Beat and help the millions that are still struggling with eating disorders by fundraising. Currently there are around 1.6million people in the UK affected by an eating disorder. 
These illnesses have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric condition and up to 20% may die. Early intervention is crucial in saving lives and Beat can provide the first contact to guide and support people in accessing the treatment they need. The charity is in direct contact with over 100,000 people a year through its helplines, messageboard and text services which all require funding.

Just £2 enables Beat to provide online support to a young person struggling with an eating disorder

£5 enables Beat to answer a question on the helpline message boards.

£10 enables Beat to give a sufferer the opportunity to talk to a support worker.

£25 enables Beat to answer five questions in our online Youth Chat Room.

£100 enables Beat to train a Young Ambassador to talk about and raise awareness of eating disorders in the national media.

£250 enables Beat to train a helpline worker.

£500 enables Beat to set up a regional training event to train volunteers to set up and run a support group in their local area.

I'm not the greatest runner in the world so this half marathon will be a serious challenge for lazy me! Yet I hope by sticking to my training plan (i.e. panting around the Edinburgh Meadows at unsociable hours) and healthy lifestyle I will be able to complete the run in under 2hrs 30mins.
