4000 miles for the Long Necks · 1 March 2021

The Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) is the only NGO in the world that concentrates solely on the conservation and management of giraffe in the wild throughout Africa. We are dedicated to securing a future for all giraffe populations in the wild.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The past year has taken its toll on the whole world and has affected us all differently, sadly it has also taken its toll on conservation projects around the world. Restrictions have made it difficult for conservationists to get out there and do what they do best, but it has also affected economies which in turn affects donations and funding to projects and they need our help more than ever before. We are both lucky enough to be around giraffe on a daily basis which is why we are both so passionate about this cause, we want to do our bit to help bring these gentle giants back from the brink of extinction.

Our aim is to cycle 4000 miles between the two of us (2000 miles each). We are aiming to start on 01.03.2021 and aiming to complete the 4000 miles by 31.12.2021. Our fundraising target is £1000 but if we exceed that total, that would be amazing. As we both live in different parts of the UK, we will be doing our 2000 miles each separately but will keep you updated on our progress.

Paul and I have both been lucky enough to travel to Africa and work with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) and have seen first hand the amazing work they do across Africa. The GCF work in 16 countries across Africa, working to secure the future of giraffe, so every penny raised will make a difference.

The money raised could be used to fund expeditions to carry out population surveys  and GPS collaring, or it could even be used to replace or maintain vital tools such as vehicles or tracking equipment. The GCF also engage areas in local communities such as schools, and get them involved in helping their wildlife and inspiring them to be the future of conservation.
