Story
My dad, Eddie Goddard, passed away after a short battle with cancer on the 15th of February 2021 at the age of 67. He was diagnosed in October 2020, which we quickly discovered was terminal. My dad’s last few weeks with us were made a lot more comfortable thanks to the brilliant advice, care and support provided by Macmillan Cancer Support. This is why this charity means so much to my family and I.
Eddie worked as an electrician for 52 years, which was his dream vocation. He woke up every morning and loved going to work. For the last 10 years of his career leading up to retirement, my dad worked as an electrical shift engineer at Basildon Hospital. He was incredibly proud of his job and had always said it was the perfect job to settle down for retirement.
My dad was an incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable man, those who knew him would remember the interesting facts they learnt from him. His interests included science, history, politics and sport. Also my dad was an avid reader, he read thousands of books from all genres. Eddie was a very likeable and funny man who got along with everybody that he met. He was incredibly easy going and would go out of his way to help anyone. Although nothing mattered more to him than my mum, who he was married to for 47 years, and his family.
Eddie will always be loved and missed by many.
