Story
On easter weekend, the 28th of March, my kayak partner and I will be taking part in the Devizes to Westminster kayak canoe race raising money for charity. Devizes to Westminster is a 125 mile kayak canoe race from Devizes in Wiltshire down the Kennet & Avon canal, passing through Pewsey, Hungerford, Newbury, Reading, Marlow, Windsor, Teddington and finally finishing at Westminster Bridge on The River Thames in London.
The race is rated to be "one of the most demanding, open to all, races in the world."
There are 5 classes within the event:
1. Senior Doubles - crews of 2 adults who race non-stop from start to finish
2. Senior Singles - adult single paddlers who compete over 4 days
3. Junior Doubles - crews of 2 juniors who compete over 4 days
4. Veteran / Junior - crews of 1 adult (over 35) and 1 junior who compete over 4 days
5. Endeavour - a non-competitive doubles class held over 4 days
We are taking part in the Juniour Doubles. It is run in 4 endurance stages over a course of 4 days. We are racing in a K2 doubles Kayak which was once named "Tippy"!

I am raising money for a charity called "The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign" in memory of my father who died in the year 2000 after suffering from a mild form of Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy.
Muscular dystrophy can occur in many different forms. It causes muscle weakness and can cause severe pain and discomfort. It is often found in teens but can be found in adulthood.
