Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Ayrshire Cancer Support provide me with the vital psychological support required in order to help me adjust and live with cancer.

A lot is said about the physical treatments but I feel we should be working harder to provide more psychological support/treatments as it can make a huge difference.

Also, I am campaigning for people to be tested early as it can make a big difference to your future.

Over the past couple of years my father and my brother have both been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Considering my father and brother were diagnosed I was advised to see my doctor and have a PSA test. Unfortunately this came up positive and now I have prostate cancer. I have been actively raising awareness and funds for cancer charities and at one stage set a new world record, and recently raised £300 by travelling around the area on my Fatbike and stopping off to busk with my ukulele.

I never, ever thought I would fall victim to cancer ( it will never happen to me!) and as a person who is into fitness the treatment does restrict my training and energy levels. One day I was walking along Irvine Beach to Troon with my wife and started to walk backwards. This prompted me to consider a novel way to raise awareness and funds for my charity Ayrshire Cancer Support and walk backwards from Irvine Beach to Barassie (around 4-5klm). Might seem short but try doing it backwards? Walking backwards is a great and fun way to exercise and is usually best carried out in pairs (one acting as a spotter swapping round to give a break). We walk backwards on the local beach regularly especially when my treatment diminishes my energy.
I cannot stress the importance of seeking an early test and psychological support. I know we always fear the worst but if you have any doubts and/or there is a family history, please consider being checked. Please support and sponsor if you can or even join in with the walk and raise funds and awareness.
