Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Eden House & partners are taking part in the Bristol Dragon Boat Race on the 22nd September 2013 to raise money for local services. Funds will be split between Bristol Crisis Service for Women & Self Injury Self Help (SISH) Bristol because....

- In 2006 a Government Enquiry found that 1 in 12 to 1 in 15 young people have personal experience of self harm; that equates to around two children in every classroom.

- According to figures provided by the Ministry of Justice (2012) 31% of incidents of self-harm in prisons in England & Wales are carried out by women; despite women making up 5% of the prison population.

Eden House challenges & supports women involved with the Criminal Justice System, to make changes to their lifestyle, with the aim of reducing reoffending. Eden House reviewed figures for women in the Avon & Somerset Probation area in 2012, and found that 34% of women under probation supervision, reported previous self-harm incidents.

It is clear to us that self-harm is an issue for many of the women which we work with, an issue which can develop from childhood. This is why we would like to support these local services to continue the good work which they do for young people and adults.

Funds raised will be split between:

Bristol Crisis Service for Women who provide text & email support for young women who self injure, provide diaries & self help literature and raise awareness of self injury.

Self Injury Self Help (SISH) Bristol who run self help groups & courses for people who self-injure.
