Story

What is the campaign?

Ahead of this summer’s Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games, The British Red Cross have launched Be Your Best in partnership with Team GB, to raise vital funds for people in crisis. We're raising money so that British Red Cross teams can reach people who need help. Looking out for each other is really important in communities across the UK because no one should go through a crisis on their own.

Schools, local businesses and community groups are all encouraged to take part, and pledge to be their best – by running a quicker 5km, clocking up kind acts in the classroom, community or office, baking a record number of cakes or anything in between!

Here at the Engagement and Development Managers team (EDMs), we've decided to join the campaign and set a team challenge.

From 28th June-15th August 2021, we're challenging ourselves to get moving for a total of 1087km - the distance between our offices. We're moving in whatever way we can: running, cycling, walking, swimming.

We'll let you know how we get on by posting updates below! You can also view our route.

Where does the money go?

All money raised through this campaign will help our work across the UK and overseas. That includes making sure people have the connections they need, so that our communities are more resilient and can stand strong to face the future. Our teams are also supporting people who have been hit hardest by Covid-19, with practical and emotional help, as well as assisting at hospitals and vaccination centres.

£40 could cover a grocery shop for someone coming home from hospital to an empty fridge.

£100 could provide 6 vulnerable people with a wheelchair for a week, giving them their independence back.

£381 would fund our emergency support line for one hour, allowing people across the UK to access the help they need.
