Story

LONDON TO PARIS 2014

As many of you may know my Father-in-Law John Worrow sadly passed away in July 2013 as a result of cancer.

I wanted to do something in memory of John and to thank the Macmillan nurses at the Martlets Hospice in Hove for the care and support offered to my wife and her family during this very difficult time.

My passion for road cycling was the answer!

Having completed the London to Brighton ride a few years ago I wanted to do a ride that would really challenge me and also allow me to raise lots of funds for Macmillan in return.

I approached Macmillan to see if they could offer me a space on their organised event in 2014, which just so happened to fall on the annniversary of John's passing and was overjoyed when they accepted me.

The event is 485km and the route is as follows:

Day 1, London - Dover

After an early start from London we head off for for the hills and villages of rural Kent along country roads to Dover and the south coast. Leaving the white cliffs behind us, we take an afternoon ferry across the channel to Calais where we spend our first night.

Approx Cycling Distance: 145k

Day 2, Calais - Arras

We then head south from Calais, through beautiful rural landscapes and quiet back roads. The ride gets more undulating as the day continues until we reach Arras, our well deserved final destination for the day.

Approx Cycling Distance: 125k

Day 3, Arras - Compiègne

After a couple of hard days in the saddle, we head South once more. We will travel through villages and along quiet French roads to the more forested region around the attractive town of Compiègne. We’ll spend the night there. Compiègne is nestled on the banks of the River Oise, giving our location for the evening a stunning backdrop.

Approx Cycling Distance: 125k

Day 4, Compiègne - Paris

Our final day’s cycling takes us South West initially through small villages and woodland before we meet the Parisian suburbs. From this point the traffic increases, but our destination and the finish is in sight. We cycle though the Parisian streets around the Arc de Triumph to our finish beneath the lofty arches of the Eiffel Tower.

Approx Cycling Distance: 90km.

 PLEASE SPONSOR ME!

I must raise a minimum of £1600 in order to take part, but would really like to surpass this total and break the £2k marker.

I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the Macmilllan nurses for their support last year and I would be really grateful if you could please sponsor me with whatever donation you can, big or small!

I can't promise to ride at the same tempo of Chris Froome, Sir Bradley Wiggins or Mark Cavendish but with 7 months training ahead of me you can be assured that I will give everything to ensure I complete this challenge.

GUESS THE TIME!

I am also offering a prize to the person who can correctly guess my total ride time from when I start in London to the finish line in Paris.

The person closest to my actual time will win a prize!

Please add your ETA in hours/mins/secs on your donation comments.

Thanks in advance and Good Luck!
