Well, I was 16 when I first visited Iraq in 2011 when the war had just settled with a few bombings still going on in the outskirts of the cities. I met a few children of my age at the time in the Mausoleum of Abdul Qadir Gilani in Baghdad. They were all extremely talented with aspirations of their own and deserved the best education, family and resources just like me but didn't for a reason which was not even under their control. Instead they were traumatised by the uncertainty of the war and worked to earn a living as sweepers and helpers in the local shops.
This is not discussed a lot now but Child labour is still a reality for many orphans in Iraq. That experience has stayed with me and I am so thankful to my dear friend Youssef to run with me for this initiative.
We have been following the work of Al-Ayn Foundation since a few years now and they do incredible work in not only ensuring orphaned children in poverty survive their tough circumstances but also beyond that they are dedicated to providing them with an opportunity to thrive through educational support, medical care and psychological rehabilitation.
The total cost to holistically support the basic needs of one child with the educational, vocational, medical and mental health care is £55 per month. Thus, our aim is to support 3 Orphans in Iraq for one whole year and we request you to extend help in achieving our target of £1980.
Do help us reach our goal by making a donation or spreading the word or both :)
