Story
We will cycle between Addenbrooke’s and the Satellite Dialysis Units in Bury St Edmunds, King’s Lynn and Huntingdon. The whole route is roughly 150 miles, but breaks down into 4 sections over two days:
Day 1:
- Addenbrooke's to Bury St Edmunds (approx 35 miles)
- Bury St Edmunds to King's Lynn (approx 40 miles)
Day 2:
- King's Lynn to Hinchingbrooke (approx 50 miles)
- Hinchingbrooke to Addenbrooke's (approx 25 miles).
The goal is completion rather than a specific time. It is likely to be 5-6hrs in the saddle each day (as we'll doubtless get lost a couple of times in the wilds of Cambridgeshire, which all look like the photo...).
A 'standard' dialysis session is 4hrs, so we should be able to get from unit-to-unit within a session, highlighting the time commitment our patients make to their own care.
We are a mixed peloton in every sense - carbon, steel; disc, rim; amateur, UK international; patients, staff, relatives. But will all have 2 wheels and look bad in lycra.
Thanks for your generosity.
About NKF, from NKF:
NKF is a small but highly effective national charity, established forty years ago and still unique in several ways. We are the only UK support organisation run by kidney patients for kidney patients; we provide the only national Helpline dedicated solely to renal patients, their families and carers; and are the UKs largest producer and distributor of kidney related medical information leaflets. Right across the UK we currently support 2 million kidney patients.
