Story
This year I plan to run the full distance of the South West Coast Path from Minehead to Poole some 630 miles. I will be doing this as a virtual event over the year, aiming to cover approximately a half marathon each weekend on my local run round Knole Park in Kent. Why the South West Coast Path? Well over the Christmas lockdown I read an amazing story of personal challenge and change which resonated greatly with me, The Salt Path, by Raynor Winn; if you have not read it then buy a copy today, it is a must read! The book led me to reflect deeply on a time of immense challenge and change in my own life. A time of loss, desperation and fear in which I was greatly supported by my wife Kay and her amazing strength to keep going, to keep fighting on. In our time of need we were greatly supported by so many people and organisations but it was the kind charity of Ronald McDonald House Charities UK that provided us with much needed support and accommodation while we spent the final precious weeks with our beautiful daughter Isobel at Kings Hospital, London.
In memory of Isobel I ask that you kindly consider donating whatever you can to Ronald McDonald House Charities, directly, or via my Justgiving page, so that we can all help families through times of great need as they care for their loved ones, and navigate the difficult journeys they all face ahead...
Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with children having treatment in hospital. Our Houses offer much more than just a place to stay; they provide family activities, peer support, respite, and many other services. This means that families can be by their child’s bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life with reduced emotional and financial strain. We help over 6,000 families each year and now, more than ever, we need your support. Thank you.
