Story
In just 7 days' time on Sunday 3rd October, I will be taking on my biggest challenge ever, competing at Ironman Barcelona. Ironman is an ultra-endurance triathlon consisting of a 3.8km ocean swim, 180km road bike, followed by a 42km run (marathon)! An event that can only be described as a relentless endorsement of self-inflicted pain.
Having signed up for the event almost 2 years ago now (a decision I have regretted more than once since) and one year's cancellation due to the pandemic, the training has been long, intense, and somewhat never-ending!
My girlfriend Bryony's mum, Jane, has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour, perhaps one of the most undetectable and serious cancers to find yourself facing. She is currently undergoing intensive chemo and radio therapy. As Jane has been an environmental science teacher for most of her life and all-around eco-warrior, I have chosen to raise money for the charity most important to her, the WWF.
The WWF is an international organisation that works for the protection of the planet for current and future generations of humans, animals, and all wildlife. They do this in many ways, but notably by working with government to create policies to reduce UK emissions and our impact on the environment. Any donation, no matter the size, would be greatly appreciated.
