Trekking the Alta Via di Monti Liguria · 2 May 2018

When the sun goes down the working day ends for millions of people without electricity. At the flick of a switch, lives can be instantly changed with a solar light. SolarAid wants to make real, sustainable change happen.

Story

In a rash moment of madness I have decided to attempt to trek the 260m (440km) high traverse of the Maritime Alps along the Alta Via di Monti Liguri in May.  With over 21,000m of ascent I am looking to camp for most of the 3-4 weeks I am seeking to take , but may seek hospitality in the odd refugio en route, if only for a bite to eat!  Never done anything quite like it and in truth I am a little nervous - and unprepared.

My reason for undertaking the trek is twofold

  1. To learn Italian!!! - given we are spending so much of our time in this sublime Ligurian landscape
  2. To promote and raise money for the new Zero Footprints Community - "The Voice of Photographers Exploring Climate Change", whose aims include showcasing stunning photography, education, awareness raising and raising money to offset carbon emissions.  Check out www.zerofootprints.org if you are interested to learn more and join our SmugMug webinar on 7 June.

All monies raised by from this walk will go to SOLARAID, a fantastic grassroots charity offsetting carbon emissions.

Many thanks for any support you feel you can give, be it

  • in words (nice one's preferred ;o),
  • sharing the page to increase the number of people who will see this, and/or
  • direct contribution.
