Story

Dear Friends/Colleagues/Family,

Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Please read my story below and help me raise funds for The Institute of Cancer Research. Let's fight cancer together!

Trekking the Everest

My challenge

After months of hesitation and indecisiveness I have arrived at a final decision. I am ready to take on the most extreme and dangerous adventure of my lifetime - trekking Mount Everest to base camp. The whole expedition will take 18 days and I will be trekking at high altitude; I will climb a total distance of 120km while camping for 12 days consecutively in freezing temperatures.

To get there, we will have to fly from Katmandu to Lukla, by landing and taking off from the most dangerous airport in the world. The airfield strip will be the starting point of the expedition. Without a doubt - this is going to be the most amazing journey I have been part of and I hope I will manage to finish the challenge successfully.

This challenge is not going to be a walk in the park and I will require many months of intense training and preparation both, physical and mental. I will be exposed to the elements, the unpredictable weather of the Himalayans, the treacherous treks and the altitude sickness, which is always the biggest challenge for all trekkers and climbers.

My ultimate goal is to reach the Everest Base Camp but also to explore the Nepalese culture and learn more about their beliefs and way of life. Hopefully the expedition will also allow me to discover the unknown and experience a spiritual enrichment. This adventure it's going to be truly an endurance exercise that will test my personal limits while allowing me to redraw my own boundaries.

The charity

Ever since I started working in the healthcare sector I empathised enormously with people in need of care who are
affected and suffer from different medical conditions and
illnesses. This time I have decided to help The Institute of Cancer
Research to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.
It would be an honour to bring a little contribution and help ICR and everyone affected by cancer to fight against it. More and more people are suffering from cancer and many families are affected by this. The disease also affected my grandfather who succumbed to lung
cancer. That is why I want to
fund raise for this cause and I hope that through my challenge I will be able to raise awareness and money to find more efficient treatments and maybe a cure.

My training

I have already started my training with a very challenging crush diet
program. Through this I aim to get myself into a good physical shape. In
the second phase I will continue with a regime of fitness to build stamina and resistance.
For my altitude training I am planing to purchase an elevation training mask to reduce the oxygen intake while working on my cardio exercises.
