SleepOut 2019 · 29 November 2019 to 30 November 2019 ·

The Robes Project provides a volunteer led Winter Night Shelter for those experiencing homelessness in Southwark and Lambeth. We give guests advice, guidance and floating support. In partnership with our guests, we work with them to access long term accommodation and be able to sustain it.

Story

Like a lot of Londoners I see people sleeping rough on a daily basis. Sometimes I turn a blind eye to it, and sadly over the years I've absorbed it as a part of daily life. Of course, it isn't normal, and in fact the number of people sleeping rough has tripled since I first moved to London. It's up 18% in the last year alone.

By sleeping out in the precincts of Southwark cathedral, I'm raising money for Robes' excellent winter shelter program--it provides a warm bed, food and companionship every night for a group of 35 homeless people. One of the shelters is around the corner from my house in Peckham--which is how I came to learn about it.
