Sands is the charity speaking up about pregnancy and baby loss, saving babies’ lives and supporting bereaved families. Together, we are saving babies’ lives and improving maternity safety and bereavement care through research, training and campaigning.

Story

"Eileanóir Róisín Flaviana Ebreo

Born 09/11/2015 at 04:26. Rest in Peace."

"Extraordinary Eileanóir the Explorer. Off on her adventures too soon. We will remember her forever and we will ask her every day what new exciting things she has seen and done. Our beautiful shining light taken too soon, never to be forgotten."

During this devastating time we have found the SANDS charity an incredible support.

In 2013, over 5700 babies died just before, during or soon after birth. That’s over 100 babies every week.

SANDS work to improve research into preventing and answering the questions that surround stillborn and neonatal deaths.  They also raise awareness, improve the difficult process of post mortem consent and aim to standardise the reviews of the deaths of our lost little ones.

On a personal level they provide parents, family and friends as well as healthcare workers with the information and support they need to deal with their grief.  This is done through well thought out books, online forums, their website, memorial services, memory gardens and local support groups.

We have found all these things a huge help and would therefore like to help this great charity continue their good work.

The Wiggle Dragon Ride is set in the beautiful mountains and valleys of South Wales.  There are 4 distances that Eileanóirs peloton of dedicated cyclists can choose to tackle (100km, 153km, 230km, 305km). Let us know if you want to be part of the peloton as we can apply for a group discount on entry fees.

I will be taking on the 305km Dragon Devil ride which will involve 5000m of climbing (two thirds the height of Everest).  This is one of the most gruelling organised cycle rides in Europe.  It will no doubt be hard but I know that Eileanóir will be with me (daddys cycling buddy), a shining light guiding me to the finish line.
