Story
In November 2018 I will be joining a team of optometrists volunteering with Vision Aid Overseas on an assignment in Zambia.
The aim of this charity is to fight poverty by transforming access to eye care and affordable glasses in Africa.
The way we plan to achieve this is by providing training to local eye care workers, to establish vision centres where patients can access eye care services and to support outreach services in rural communities.
Vision aid overseas works with volunteers not only in Zambia, but also in Sierra leone, Ghana, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso. The aim in each of these projects is to establish a sustainable eye care service.
This will mean children in Africa who can’t see clearly can learn and obtain an education and adults who can’t see clearly can earn to provide for their families and contribute to their communities.
As part of our fundraising I will be running a full marathon in Tenby on 15th of July 2018.
Any donations from you would be very much appreciated. All donations will be given to help fund the projects run by the charity in the five countries it works in in Africa.
£5 can pay for Vision Aid Overseas to provide an eye examination and provide a pair of spectacles
£10 can pay for the raw materials needed to manufacture three pairs of glasses at a Vision centre
£22 can pay for a days training for an eye care worker - giving them the skills needed to provide a sustainable service in their community all year round.
