Brighton Marathon 2021 · 12 September 2021 ·
It may be a little bonkers (having never run more than 10km in one go before) but my parents and I will be attempting to run the Brighton marathon in April. We’re all a little apprehensive, but we know we’re raising money for an incredible cause, which is close to our hearts.
I work in a care home in which many residents live with dementia, so I see the devastating effects of it day-in day-out. Not only do I work in an environment surrounded by dementia, but, as people who know me well are aware, my grandparents both live with dementia themselves. My Nan has Alzheimer’s disease and my Pap has mixed Alzheimer’s and Vascular dementia. The struggles my family go through to support them to live as independently as possible in their own home are draining to say the least, not to mention heartbreaking. My parents and my aunt face this every day and spend an awful lot of time taking care of my grandparents.
Dementia UK do some amazing work to support those whose lives are affected by dementia. They fund dementia specialist nurses (Admiral nurses) who work closely with people living with dementia, as well as their families, to make their lives that little bit easier. Do visit their website and read into the work they do, it’s worth finding out a little more. And if you’d like to donate to us in our madness please please feel free to!
Thank you in advance for your much needed and appreciated support!
