Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. Unfortunately I didn't get round to setting up this page until late in the day despite my very best intentions. Hopefully you can make up for lost time and donate now!
I thought I'd make this challenge even more challenging by doing 3 events over 4 weeks in the hope that it will give everyone more time and more incentive to do their bit - hint: part with some hard earned cash for a very worthy cause. The 3 events are...
18-19 May - The London Revolution road cycle ride (180 miles) ...DONE!
24-25 May - Le Mans 24 hour Roller (same format as the motor race but on skates!)
8-9 June - South downs way off-road/MTB cycle ride (100 miles with around 13,500ft of climbs!!)
I will be aiming to complete the London Revolution which is a 180 mile cycle ride around London over two days (100 miles on day 1 and only 80 miles on day 2). I like to think I'm reasonably fit but I've never cycled this far before in two days. The really scary part of this is the suggested training plan the organisers sent out... are they kidding?!! See http://www.london-revolution.com/
I will also be participating in the Le Mans 24hr Roller event which means completing as many laps of the famous Bugatti race circuit in France as possible in 24 hrs. I'll be part of the ESS (Easy Saturday Skate) team. See http://www.24rollers.com/en/
Finally, I'll be joining a group of friends to cycle the South Downs way from Winchester to Eastbourne (possibly ending in Brighton depending on the weather). This epic route has virtually no level bits - its either up or down - hence the 13,500ft of climbs.
I've covered all the costs associated with the events and every penny (minus the administration charges from JustGiving) will go to Alongside Africa.
Alongside Africa is an inspirational charity set up by a friend who has been involved in the business end of the charity sector for longer than he'd care for me to mention. I'll call him "Lawrance" as that's his name. Lawrance has put a team together that aims (and is succeeding) at creating a world in which every person has the opportunity to earn a living. A key differentiator (and the cool part) is that they do this by providing opportunities, not aid.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
