Elaine's Wing Walk: On a wing and a prayer

Wing Walk · 22 August 2021
Every 15 minutes, someone in the UK starts to lose their
sight.
On Sunday 22 August, I will be taking on the challenge to wing walk strapped to a vintage Boeing Stearman Biplane to raise money for Moorfields Eye Charity. Having lived with Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) for 21 years now, I am determined to help support the vital work of Moorfields
I have already challenged myself to the fastest zip wire in the world and undertaken tandem sky diving and has truly been a ‘glance’ of a lifetime to be able to see the amazing impact that charitable donations make for Moorfields patients and staff. A wing walk challenge seems the natural progression – to complete steep turns, zoom climbs and dives reaching speeds of up to 130mph!
By raising the much needed funds for Moorfields, more people living with sight loss can receive the necessary treatment and eye care they need as well as the support they deserve – and that is very important to me.
Moorfields Eye Charity are dedicated to funding pioneering research into new treatments, purchasing new equipment and training current and future healthcare professionals. This can ensure the care they provide improves the experience for Moorfields patients and their families.
In the darkest of moments, Moorfields has offered me hope and has shown me that there is light at the end of a tunnel.
I would be extremely grateful if you were able to support me with a kind donation, no matter how big or small in my fight to ensure that no one faces sight loss alone.
