Story

Lisa Yon is the Founding Director of the Elephant Welfare Project (EWP), based at the University of Nottingham's School of Veterinary Medicine & Science. For more than a decade, the EWP has been working in partnership with colleagues at national and international elephant keeping facilities, to improve captive elephant welfare worldwide.

Until recently there was no consistent way of monitoring the welfare of elephants in captivity across the globe. My team at the University of Nottingham’s Vet School are helping to change that. We’ve produced a mobile app that not only makes it easier for Zoos to look after their elephants, but it gives us vital data to aid our research and work out how to best ensure elephants lead happy and healthy lives.

Anything you can donate to our appeal will help elephants by enabling us to further develop this app, and keeping it free to use.

Thanks to the generosity of our kind donor, Farid Suleman, every gift will be matched pound for pound (up to £2,500), so any money you donate will be worth double!

Please give what you can and help us in our vital work to improve elephant welfare across the world.
