Tough Mudder Classic North West 2019 · 7 September 2019 to 8 September 2019 ·

We are the only dedicated Fox Rescue and Rehabilitation charity based in Wirral. We aim to help sick and injured foxes in the surrounding area. We are able to treat some foxes in the field. If admitted, the foxes begin their treatment and start their road to rehabilitation and ultimate release.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Sunday 8th September 2019 I will be doing a Tough Mudder, 8-10 miles with 25 obstacles, at Cholmondeley castle raising money for a charity that is very close to my heart and that I helped setting up - Pawprints Wildlife Rescue. I have recently changed jobs and therefore I am not able to spend much time helping out as Duty Manager once a week or with other things, e.g. social media, community and engagement, releases, research etc. Therefore, I want to use this opportunity to help out in a different way. All people apart from 2 (funded through a grant) are volunteers and dedicate a large chunk of their time to help injured wildlife, especially hedgehogs and birds. It has always been a dream for me to open a wildlife sanctuary/hospital because even from a young age on I thought 'Why aren't there any hospitals for animals? They need looking after too sometimes'. So with this venture my childhood dream came true.

However, the Tough Mudder is also a personal challenge for myself. 2 years ago on 22nd April 2017 I was cycling home from work and got knocked off my bike by a car. Apart from a fractured finger and lots of scratches and bruises, my right thigh muscle just above my knee took a big hit and got severely damaged. I am still feeling pain to this day and had to go through a lot of physio sessions and daily home physio exercises, which are the complete opposite of what I am used to. Everybody who knows me, knows that I love high-intensity sports, my favourite one being rugby. I also used to go on long 1-hour runs, long hikes, played basketball, badminton and squash, which I had to put to a hold for a while. I went for two runs recently until my lungs gave in and realised how unfit I had become - 14mins (with a massive push) and 8mins. I've also gained weight and according to my BMI I am now slightly overweight, which is something I never had to deal with and therefore quite shocked me but also served as a wake-up call that I can't let my injury take over my life. On the 9th of July this year I went to my first rugby training in over 2 years. Thankfully my skills are still there but as a winger I am as slow as a snail, which is pretty frustrating when I used to fly across the field (more or less). I have also started with daily cardio training (20-30mins) to get my condition back to normal using an app called 'Female Fitness', where you can tailor a workout completely to your own needs, before I start another disappointing run.

So, there is a bit of a background to all the reasons involved in why I have chosen to do a Tough Mudder. Hopefully, I could inspire you a bit. I would be very grateful if you do have a few spare pennies to donate to our rescue centre in Hoylake. Thanks everyone!
