My wish is that my children, your children and our children's children never have to witness domestic violence, ever again.

In “normal times”, survivors of domestic violence who approach MSP for support in moving themselves and their children past abuse and victimization face overwhelming barriers: legal, physical, mental, financial, and systemic. Now the barriers their clients face include a global pandemic and the economic, logistical, and psychological fallout from the necessary measures our society has taken to slow its spread.

In recent weeks, MSP staff have been working to respond effectively to a tsunami of need – from the more than 400 open cases now presenting with increased dangers and complexity, to the new clients calling the agency every day from circumstances as difficult and varied as we have ever seen.  Some are cut off from jobs, support, and basic necessities; many are terrified even to seek needed medical assistance; others facing the prospect of dying alone in fear and isolation. Whereas MSP previously used established methods and practices of highly effective service provision, their counseling and legal staff now find that each client interaction takes on average about 5-times longer than usual - increasing staffing costs, technology, and other expenses.
