Since I was 8 years old, watching Comic Relief from my front room, I've wanted to be an aid worker in Africa, and finally I have been given the chance. However, unlike on TV, I won't have cameras following me everywhere I go, I won't be living in a fancy hotel – in fact I will be living with host families, many without electricity, running water and even western-style toilets! 

This will be the biggest challenge I am yet to face, and as overused as that phrase is, living in a small town in Kenya won't be much like my current life just outside Cambridge. 

When we are out there we will be helping small businesses to grow, to provide a sustainable source of income for the future. These businesses could be anything from a street seller in Nakuru, to a hairdresser in Nairobi. Balloon Ventures has helped to increase profit by up to 48% in many small businesses, using 200,000 hours of volunteer labour. 

I have become a representative of Balloon Ventures and would like to raise some money from back home ahead of my trip to Kenya. This money will go to support the charity while we are out there. I intend to do this through many different activities, including nannying, family photography and my favourite, Zumbathons! For more information, stay tuned to this page and my Facebook. 

I am very lucky to have been given this opportunity as this is a fully funded trip, so none of the money raised will go towards vaccinations, accommodation, flights, etc – it will all go to the people who really need it.
