Elizabeth's Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge page

Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge · 6 September 2014
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It is World Suicide Prevention Day today 10.09.2014, which is not something that is always easy to talk about, which is why it's important to raise awareness; it's good to talk.
I have been raising support and awareness for the Samaritans of Waltham Forest. I completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in under 12 hours last Saturday, I have raised £375 so far... An enormous 'thank you' for every penny of this generous sponsorship. And in writing this page, I hope to raise awareness of the Samaritans service, and that feels priceless (go to "My Intro")

My Story on 3-Peaks Day:
The day started off in a panic at
5.22am, with a 3 minutes turn around before the coach. Then it was pretty much
drizzle, light rain, mist and cloud until 3pm. Ingleborough and Pen y
gent both steep climbs, but at a comfortable pace, and with lots of breaks. We were nearly at the top of peak number two (Pen y Ghent, Photo 7), and I was feeling
like it was all fairly relaxed, it didn't seem as hard as I expected...
At
'tea time' though, there was a sudden shift, we gulped hot drinks, and swallowed down cake in a 4 minute stop -
while we were being told by the Organiser guy 'get to the start of the
final peak by 3.30 or you can't complete'. Sorry to Leader 7 who I made down
his scalding cup of tea. But everyone wanted it so much / we couldn't fail to do the 3 peaks because of a cuppa!!! Team 4 sped off,
determined to get it completed.
We
made it - (the challenge within the challenge), and started up the final peak.
Getting to the top of Whernside felt never ending, and I needed all the team
spirit, flapjacks - 'thank you Jason' and Percy Pigs available to keep faith
that it was possible.
But
the clouds had lifted to glorious sunshine and views of a vast basin of rolling
hills, lake and Viaduct. Unforgettable. *Fortunate as by that stage we were down to one Smartphone for pics.
'Thank
you' to Eric, Sian, Francis and Gill Aldom for making such a fab five-some to go through the challenge with - in training, and on The Long Day. And, 'thank you' to Gill for all her excellent organising,
and making it all happen. A very happy 11hours 40 minutes spent - I am
remembering it that way.
(Previously) My Intro:
I am challenging myself to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in 12 hours this Saturday to raise money to support Samaritans, Waltham Forest to provide confidential, non-judgmental support throughout the U.K. and locally - Because everyone should have someone in their corner, when they need it.
I've been training in Parliament Hill, Crouch Hill, Muswell Hill, Box Hill; and the Pembrokeshire Coast, Ivinghoe Beacon, St Albans, Cambridgeshire and Coulsdon. I've been stung in the head by a swarm of angry bees, drenched through in Wales, and lost - once or twice.
But on Saturday at least I won't be trying to map read - just focusing on completing the 24.5 miles and hoping to, within the time. So far I've made 13 miles in 6 hours, in Cambridgeshire (where it's very flat). I suppose that's why it's called the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge "whoop whoop"
