In April 2027, I will be taking on the challenge of running the London Marathon to raise money for Group B Strep Support (GBSS), a charity dedicated to preventing life-threatening Group B Strep infections in babies, and supporting affected families.

This cause is incredibly close to my heart. Both my boyfriend and one of my closest friends were affected by Group B Strep as babies, and were incredibly fortunate to fully recover with the help of amazing health care professionals. My boyfriend’s family are still involved with this charity today, which is why I have chosen to join them in their support.

Group B Strep is the most common cause of severe infection in newborn babies and can lead to sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis. While many babies recover, some are left with life-changing disabilities, and tragically, some do not survive. GBSS works tirelessly to raise awareness, educate families and healthcare professionals, and campaign for better prevention and testing to help save babies’ lives.

Running 26.2 miles will be one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever taken on, (especially for someone who has always hated running!), but it feels small compared to the challenges faced by families affected by Group B Strep. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help GBSS continue its vital work supporting families, raising awareness, and helping to prevent Group B Strep infections in babies.

The target amount I have been set to raise for this charity is £3000 and I would therefore, be ever so grateful if you are able to sponsor me.
