Story
What am I doing?
At the end of July I will be getting on my bike to cycle nearly 200 miles across Britain, crossing the Pennines in the process, and finishing at Urban One gates in Hull. In the process I hope to raise much needed money for William Booth House, a Salvation Army hostel for homeless people in Hull. I am really hoping that you will "dig-deep" into your pocket, just as I will almost certainly need to dig-deep whilst on my bike!
Why William Booth House?
As well as providing temporary furnished accommodation and support for single male and female homeless people, William Booth House also offer a full resettlement programme in a supportive environment to help people break out of the cycle of homelessness. It supports residents throughout the process of moving from a chaotic lifestyle that is part of living on the streets to reintegrating back into society and living an independent, meaningful life.
William Booth House helps residents learn about budgeting, cooking and housekeeping, health and personal hygeine, as well as how to access various support agencies, develop job seeking skills, manage their leisure time, and understand behaviours that may previously had led to addiction.
Why not find out more information about the wonderful work they do at William Booth House?
What's behind all this?
The amazing spirit of Hull and its' people was one of the things that attracted me as a Buy2Let landlord to the city. However, the development I bought into was plagued with problems from the start, many being due to activities of homeless people. Ten years later, and electronic gates have been installed improving security at the development. So on one hand my problems as a landlord are well on the way to being solved, but the problems so many homeless people face persist.
