Story

Hi, My name is Elizabeth and this November, I'm taking on the 70 Miles Challenge for Pancreatic Cancer UK because pancreatic cancer is no longer just a statistic to me, it's something my family is facing right now.

My beautiful mummy has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and watching someone you love go through this is incredibly difficult. It has opened my eyes to just how devastating this disease can be.

Pancreatic cancer is often called the deadliest common cancer. More than half of people diagnosed die within three months, and fewer than 7% survive for five years. My mum is just 42 years old and had no real symptoms up until feeling unwell on holiday in August. This has come as a complete shock to us as a family.

The 70 Miles Challenge represents the fight against a disease with such devastating survival statistics. It also represents that 70% of people diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer are told there is no options available to them. Every mile I complete is for my mum and for everyone affected by pancreatic cancer.

What makes these statistics even harder to accept is that pancreatic cancer has been overlooked for far too long. In the UK, it receives just 3% of the total cancer research budget, despite being one of the deadliest cancers. This lack of funding has meant slower progress in developing better tests, earlier diagnosis and more effective treatments. By supporting my challenge, you'll be helping to fund vital research, support patients and families, and raise awareness of a disease that urgently needs more attention.

I'm walking these 70 miles for my mum as she starts her chemotherapy journey, and for the hope that one day less families will worry about losing someone the way that me and my brothers are right now.

Thank you for every donation, message of support and share. It means more than you know.
