Brighton Marathon 2022 · 10 April 2022 ·

We want a world where everyone can enjoy a healthy environment and a fair share of the Earth’s resources. Climate change is the greatest threat to this aim, that’s why we’re campaigning for a just transition to a 100% renewable, nuclear-free, zero-fossil-fuel Scotland.

Story

Hi folks, thanks for visiting our page. We've both been training hard for Brighton marathon and developing a two-person costume in the background.

After a few failed prototypes we are now finalising a costume which we hope will see us round the 26.2 mile course. We have also set our sights on bettering the current Guinness world record of 3hr 17minutes for a marathon in a two-person costume.

The race is this Sunday 10 April. If you can chip in a few quid to this cause it would be really appreciated. All proceeds will go Friends of the Earth Scotland. We wish to raise awareness for the climate emergency and hope that our costume can help highlight some important issues.

Inspiration for the costume came after getting sick of seeing so many discarded facemasks littering the ground and seeing images of facemasks floating in the oceans. We decided to re-use our own face masks to depict a scene of ice caps melting around two stranded polar bears.

The intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC) states that to keep the planet habitable and avoid a 1.5 degree rise in global temperature there can be no more oil, gas or coal extraction. The UK government is currently trying to fast track 6 new oil and gas fields. To save our natural world there can be no more extraction of fossil fuels. We would love it if people could also take the time to sign the open letter that the Stop Cambo Campaign have circulating. This is to tell the UK government to end oil and gas extraction.
