Ella's Memory 200km Challenge · 28 May 2010

The aim of Ella's Memory is to provide practical help to parents of still-born babies throughout Cornwall. In 2011 we completely renovated and re equipped the Daisy Suite at Treliske hospital in Truro. In 2014 we renovated an additional side room and now maintain both rooms and the memory garden.

Story

On Friday the 28th of May Six intrepid friends will embark on a 200km challenge, we will be leaving The Lizard at 6am that morning and will be covering the first 100km by foot. On the way we will visit the 3 Maternity Suites across Cornwall situated in Helston, Truro and St Austell. The first leg of the challenge will finish in Fowey in the early hours of the Saturday morning.

We will then cycle another 100km around the North Cornish Coast and we are aiming to cross the finish line on the Piazza, Lemon Quay, Truro around 12pm on the Saturday afternoon. The challenge will hopefully be completed within a total of 30 hours with all monies raised going to this worthy cause.

On December 1st 2009 at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro our beautiful little baby girl Ella was born. Tragically she had passed away due to unknown reasons.
As you can imagine this has been the most harrowing and upsetting experiences that can be imagined. In the UK tragic circumstances like this happen to over 6500 parents per year.
4 months on we now can reflect and understand how important it was to have collected all the keep sakes and memories we possibly could and the priceless photos and items that we collated will stay with us forever.
With the help of our family and friends we have started Ella's Memory with the sole purpose to help and assist the parents of still born babies have at hand via the hospitals the equipment required to compile their own memories of their beautiful babies whilst in comfortable surroundings.
Our first project is to refurbish the Daisy Suite at Treliske Hospital in Truro, this is the only facility of its kind in the County. The Suite is set aside from the busy wards and is offered to parents who are going through simular tragic circumstances. We aim to refit and re equip the Bathroom, Bedroom, Kitchen and to also provide brand new equipment such as a digital camera, photo printing station and plaster imprinting kits so that parents can collate special memories of their precious babies in their own time.
