We provide wigs to children with cancer to restore their confidence and identity.

Story

On 15th December Ella with the help of Jashair is having a minimum of 7 inches cut off her very long hair to enable another child who is unwell and suffering from hair loss to have a wig made especially for them, to help someone else's wishes come true. She has bundles of it so she wants  another child to be as lucky as she is.

Ella is raising money for both Hypo Hounds and The Little Princess Trust two charities close to her heart.  If you are going to donate then if possible please divide between the two - here is the link to

Hypo Hound Page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ellashelpinghair

But there is something that she needs too the one thing she isn't lucky to have! - Sadly Ella is a Type 1 Diabetic and is Hypo unaware which means that 99.9% of the time shows or feels no symptoms of her bloods sugars dangerously low. She has to test herself that much more than someone that are aware.

She has been dancing fully intensely before and only due to being called for testing before dinner did we find she was 1.2!!!!! She’s been on stage and come off at 1.8!

There is no rhyme or reason to why she doesn’t feel it, although if she's been high and bloods drop quickly to around 13 / 14 she occasionally feels something but again this is rare.

If Ella's blood’s are too low she needs something sugary…. We have tried many different things but what works fast and best for Ella is a small can of Coke or Appletiser.

How many times has she been told how lucky she is to get to have coke and sweets!!!

She says I don't have a choice I could die if I don’t! How lucky is that?

Funny enough Ella doesn't like coke or the sugary things she has to take, they leave a horrible feeling in her mouth.

Ella has a Omnipod insulin pump which inserts into and stays attached to her body to enable a better level of constant insulin but still needs to test herself and also occasionally  needs pen injections to help balance things out quicker.

Due to Ella's Hypo unawareness she was able to have a Dexcom CGM - this machine also attaches to her body which Bluetooth's her blood readings to her mobile phone which then share to our mobile phones. It is set to alarm Ella, ourselves, school to inform us if her bloods are going too high or too low. It’s a very clever system and but like all modern technology can glitch.

As you know blind people have guide dogs, well for Diabetic people there are Hypo Hounds.

The dog is trained to alert the Diabetic and others to whether bloods are high or low and needs assistance, who can read more about them on https://hypohounds.co.uk/about/ its amazing.

This is where we introduce ‘Hope’ the Golden-doodle…. We have been fortunate to buy Hope with the aim for her to become Ella’s Hypo Hound alert dog should she pass all her training. This is to enable Ella to lead a more independent life but also a caring companion.

Hope will have to meet specific standards to reach ‘Hypo Hounds’ requirements, with a lot of hard work and help from Jenni at Salisbury Dog Trainers to who we are very grateful - we believe Hope can do this, she is just 10 weeks old and already picking up on things.

Throughout Ella’s diabetes journey so far we have seen her grow stronger and deal with things no one even knew she was even capable of. Being diagnosed with diabetes is an overwhelming experience and living with it requires hard work, resilience, persistence, and courage. She is still the same little girl who cares how others are feeling above herself.

Ella wants other children to know that having Diabetes doesn't define you, she aims to support fellow T1 warriors in their journeys too, as a dear friend always said

‘Enjoy Life Make A Difference’ this is a motto we all believe in.

Ok, Yes she has ups and downs, Ella has struggled to cope at times, telling us that she doesn’t want to be here anymore - this was heartbreaking, finding letters where she longs to be a ‘normal kid’ - who wouldn't find it hard -  if you had to do what she and others have to everyday but, most of the time Ella won't let it beat her - that is something to be so, so proud of and that we are.

Can you imagine what it is like be a Diabetic person, to prick yourself countless times a day, inject yourself, watch everything you eat constantly - Diabetic people are truly amazing.

We cannot thank our family and friends enough for all the help and support they have given to us all so far - Diabetes doesn't just affect the Diabetic but has a massive impact on their loved ones too.

This year we have taken part in a fun run this year at Five Rivers Leisure Centre and raised nearly £400 for JDRF - Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation    https://jdrf.org.uk/

Ella’s love of life and compassion for others is remarkable and she will continue to help others anyway she can, to be someone that others look up to and follow her lead.

Please remember the 4T’s & to 'Enjoy Life Make A Difference'
