Story
Hi, I’m Ellen and I appreciate you even looking at this page. I sadly lost my grandad last October and he is one of my greatest role models. This challenge is in memory of him - an all round sporting legend wether that be cricket, football, hockey or just a knock around in the garden and a quiet, intelligent, witty grounded and hard working man whom I aspire to be even half the man of. I’m raising money for cancer research and the British heart foundation who’s incredible work I’d love to support and especially as my grandad unfortunately faced both cancer and heart issues in his lifetime though never let it hold him back, I remember when I was younger after his triple heart bypass we were playing cricket and he dived for the ball! And how supportive and caring he was, I remember he started watching the FIH pro league (pro hockey matches) on tv so he could understand the rules better and understand the game that me and my family love better. Him and my grandma always tried to come to as many cricket and hockey matches of mine and my sister’s as possible to come and support, even the last time I saw him he came to support at my first match with the 1s for hockey. What a legend!
I’m also donating money to mind a charity close to my heart supporting people with their mental health. I’m going to split the total raised equally between these 3 charities (The British Heart foundation, Cancer Research and Mind).
For my challenge I’m going to cycle 1,000km (or more!) between my birthday to my grandad’s - from the 2nd December to 13th April.
I know all these issues influence so many people, with 1 in 2 of us getting cancer in our lifetime and 1 in 4 experiencing mental health issues every year. And how it touches many peoples lives, I hope we’re able to continue to be hopeful and have a positive impact on helping others and increasing awareness on these issues.
I am grateful for whatever you’re able to give and if you can’t please share the link if you can!
