Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

When we heard that you can trek to the top of Kilimanjaro without any technical climbing skills we thought it would be great fun and a good way to raise money for a great cause.

Then we went on to find out more... Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, at 5895 meters, and mountaineers will tell you that it is the most underrated mountain in the world. Only 60% of those who even try and climb it succeed due to the extreme conditions. The temperature varies from 30+ degrees Celsius lower down, to minus twenty at the summit. Altitude sickness is the biggest problem, with severe headaches, dizziness, sickness & loss of appetite a probability rather than a possibility. Sounds like fun, huh?

So why are we doing this? Well, November 2009 marked the 4th anniversary of my aunt's death, after years of fighting against cancer. It seems like the right time to do something worthwhile, in her memory. We decided that this would be an excellent way to raise money for a very worthy charity funding care for those suffering with a disease that effects one in three of us.

After watching Cheryl Cole, Chris Moyles and co. suffer on the slopes of Kilimanjaro we started training for what will no doubt be a physically, mentally and emotionally-exhausting 11 days in July.

The money we raise will be used to support the Marie Curie Nursing Service in Hertfordshire. Marie Curie Cancer Care makes it possible for people who are seriously ill with cancer and other terminal illnesses to choose to stay in the comfort of their own home at the end of their life. This home care is provided absolutely free to every patient and their family but costs £20 per hour to provide.

We are very grateful for all the support we've had for our fundraising events. We appreciate that you get lots of requests for sponsorship but please give what you can for such a worthwhile cause.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now!

Thank you
