Story
In December 2016 my Grandad Mick went into hospital after falling ill, he spent a long time in the ITU and HDU of Heartlands hospital he had Sepsis, I don't think I really knew what it was before then which is a problem, in the UK 44,000 people lose their life each year due to Sepsis but most people don't even know what it is. 6 million lives globally. In March of 2017 we lost my Grandad Mick due to complications of the Sepsis which devastated my entire family and everyone who's lives my Grandad had been apart of.
In April this year, after another long battle in the HDU ward my Grandad Chris passed away, during his stay in hospital he also had Sepsis and again devastating another entire family. Being there for a simple operation and ended up losing his life.
Having first hand experience with the illness I have seen the heartbreak it can cause, parents losing children, people losing brothers and sisters and life long friends, husbands and wives, Dads and Moms, Grandads and Nans.
There is not enough awareness of this illness, not enough people know what it is or how severe it can be. Sepsis causes our own immune system to fight our bodies organs and tissues for reasons that are not yet known. Which can result in organ failure and death.
25,000 Children are affected by sepsis each year in the UK.
1 in 4 of all sepsis survivors suffer permanent life changing after effects.
5 people are killed every hour by Sepsis in the UK.
